Molton mattress protector versus fitted sheet
For a mattress protector, most people will use the word molton. The term molton is derived from the verb "moltoneren" (to molle) and comes from mollis, which means "soft" in Latin. Moltoneren is a technique in which fabrics like cotton and polyester are roughened, making them feel softer and fluffier. This is how the word molton originated! This technique improves waterproofness and moisture-regulating properties. This treatment is important for a mattress protector or molton fitted sheet, ensuring that body moisture is absorbed into your mattress as little as possible. Regular fitted sheets differ from molton in this respect and allow more moisture to pass through. The roughening also makes a molton thicker than a regular fitted sheet.
So, a molton feels wonderfully soft and has excellent moisture regulation. Its usual fitted sheets Is it necessary? Absolutely! A fitted sheet is just as necessary and more comfortable to sleep on. The brushed fabric of a molton is fluffy and soft, but not smooth. That brushed feel can irritate your skin. How to choose the right fitted molton sheet

Different sizes
First, it's important to choose the right size mattress protector. Buying a mattress protector that's too large can cause wrinkles and bunching that are uncomfortable. If you choose a mattress protector that's too small, you won't be able to get the protective sheet to fit snugly around your mattress, despite the elastic band. A single mattress protector is suitable for mattresses between 80 cm and 100 cm wide. The length can vary from 190 cm to 200 cm, 210 cm, and even 220 cm.
A double mattress protector is used for a three-quarter or queen-size bed. This means a width of 140-160 cm, a minimum length of 200 cm, and a maximum length of 220 cm.
The largest size of mattress protector is a twin. This is used if your bed is at least 180 cm wide and no wider than 200 cm, also known as a king-size bed. The length is the same as for a smaller double bed: 200 cm, 210 cm, or 220 cm.
The corner height of your mattress

High angles
Sometimes, our standard mattress protectors, due to their high corners, even fit around a mattress and topper simultaneously. A good mattress is at least 15 cm thick and averages 17-20 cm. A topper has an average thickness of 5 cm to 10 cm. So, all of these could still fall within the maximum height. Be sure to measure your mattress and topper correctly to avoid mistakes.
Molton for a topper mattress
Do you use a mattress topper? Then you'll need a different type of mattress protector for the right fit. Special mattress topper protectors are available for this purpose, with a lower height of 15 cm. This is the maximum height, so this mattress protector is also suitable for a 10 cm mattress topper. These mattress protectors also have an elastic band all around, so you can easily fit them over the mattress topper and they stay in place.
Molton for a split topper mattress

Material of the molton
The molton is the bottom layer of your bedding, which doesn't directly touch your skin. However, the material used for a molton certainly matters, and this can affect a good night's sleep. Some materials are warmer than others. So, if you get cold easily, your personal preference will be different than for someone who sweats a lot. Vandyck makes moltons from various materials, each with its own unique properties.
Cotton moltons
The Vandyck Molton Stretch is a heavy-duty, protective fitted sheet with stretch. The top (or pile) of the Molton Stretch is made of 100% cotton weighing 210 grams/m². The fine stretch is created by the 20% polyester on the underside of the sheet and is supported by the elastic all around. The polyester is therefore on the mattress side. The other 80% of the underside is cotton. The wrinkle-resistant Molton Stretch fitted sheet is available for both mattresses and toppers, with or without a split.
Terrycloth molton
The other mattress protector in our collection is the Vandyck Tencel Multi Stretch. This terry fitted sheet is made of 80% Tencel and 20% polyester. Tencel is a natural fiber derived from eucalyptus trees. The eucalyptus fibers have a cooling effect, which is especially beneficial in the summer or for people who sweat a lot while sleeping. Tencel Multi Stretch doesn't have a flannel lining. In this case, the terry weave ensures excellent moisture absorption. A terry flannel is also wonderful to have on your bed in winter.
Molton for your pillows
While you're at it, consider the rest of your bed. Take your pillows, for example. You lie with your head and hair on your pillow all night, so it takes quite a beating. Especially since facial skin is often the most sensitive, you want to keep your pillow fresh and hygienic. You can do this with a special molton pillowcase. These are more waterproof and moisture-wicking than your regular pillowcase. Especially if you have a sleeping pillow that you can't wash, it's important to protect it with a molton.
Both moltons described above have matching pillowcases. Both the Molton Stretch, with its 100% cotton upper, and the Tencel Multi Stretch, made of terry cloth with cooling eucalyptus, are suitable for standard 60 x 70 cm pillows. The Molton Stretch is also available in 50 x 70 cm, and the Tencel Multi Stretch in 50 x 60 cm with a 10 cm height.
Washing molton
Although you don't directly touch your mattress protector while sleeping, it's important to wash it regularly, especially if you have an allergic reaction to dust mites.
