Duvets: The perfect duvet for an optimal night's sleep
If you are looking for a good duvet, you have come to the right place at Bath.&You've come to the right place at Living. We have an extensive range of duvets from the Dutch brand Vandyck. From single duvets to large king-size duvets, as well as single and four-season duvets. With us, you will find various duvets; with a down filling or a synthetic filling. We are happy to help you find a suitable duvet, because we know how important a comfortable duvet is for a good night's sleep.
What is the best duvet?
Buying a suitable duvet is a good investment. A duvet contributes enormously to a good night's sleep, which is important for your overall health. But how do you know what a good duvet is?
Let's get straight to the point: the one and only best duvet does not exist. What you sleep most comfortably under depends largely on your personal preferences. What filling material do you like? Are you looking for a 4 seasons duvet or not? Which size duvet fits your bed? However, there are a number of general aspects that tell you something about the quality and comfort of a blanket.
Distribution of the filling
You can pay attention to how the filling is distributed within the duvet. With all Vandyck duvets, the top and bottom are stitched together, usually in the form of blocks. In these so-called square duvets, the filling stays nicely in place. Because each square duvet is filled by hand, an even distribution of the filling is created. There is often a layer of felt between the seams for better insulation.
There is also a more luxurious form of the square duvet, where the blocks are separated by baffles instead of seams. These are called cassette duvets. The baffles ensure that there are no cold spots within the duvet. This aspect will be more important for duvets for the colder months. For summer duvets, a little more airiness is actually nice.
Tijk
The ticking is the outer layer or cover that surrounds the filling. Cotton is the best material for a duvet ticking. However, not all cotton duvets are the same. Combed cotton feels more pleasant than uncombed cotton. And the more finely the cotton is woven, the higher the quality of the ticking. There are also differences between percale cotton, satin cotton, and mako cotton. Mako is high-quality Northern Egyptian cotton, which has an extra-long fiber and is so finely woven that the filling, such as down feathers, cannot pass through it.
Quality guarantee
With our Vandyck duvets, you are assured of high quality. They are periodically inspected by Vaassen Textile Consultancy. The inspection of synthetic duvets focuses on composition, type of filling, ticking density, and dimensions. A down duvet is checked for thermal insulation, down quality, down density, and dimensions.
In addition, all Vandyck down duvets are Downpass certified. Besides high quality, this guarantees that the down and feathers are ethically sourced and that the duvets come from a strictly controlled production chain.
Comfort class
Our range of down duvets is divided into comfort classes: Standard, Comfort, Super Comfort, and Superior Comfort. The comfort class indicates the score regarding price, filling, ticking, insulation value, and drapeability.
Standard ***
The three-star class is the Standard comfort class with a blue label. These duvets are budget-friendly, contain 65% down, and have a 100% cotton ticking. The insulation value is good and the drapeability is more than adequate.
Comfort ****
A Comfort duvet has four stars and a yellow label. These duvets contain 90% down and a ticking made of very finely woven cotton. The insulation value is very good and the drapeability is excellent. The price falls into the mid-range.
Super Comfort *****
A Super Comfort duvet falls into the top segment in terms of quality, which is reflected in the price. These duvets contain 95% white goose down and a super tightly woven ticking made of combed cotton. A Super Comfort has the best possible drape and a very good insulation value. This class is associated with five stars and an orange label.
Superior Comfort ******
Superior Comfort is the highest class, where the price and quality belong to the top segment. A duvet with Superior Comfort contains 100% Bohemian goose down. The very lightweight ticking is super tightly woven from the finest cotton. The insulation value and drapeability are both superior. You can recognize the superior quality by the silver label with six stars.
Which filling material do you choose?
When determining whether a duvet suits your preferences, the type of filling is often a major factor. Some people find a down duvet always the best duvet. Others actually want a synthetic duvet, for example for the advantage that it machine washable is. The filling also determines how a duvet feels to lie under. Do you like a light duvet, or do you prefer having a bit of weight on you?
If you get cold easily, you want a warm duvet, where the filling material plays a major role. A thick duvet is not necessarily warmer than a thin one. If the filling of the thick duvet is made of a material with the least thermal insulation, the thinner duvet can still be a good choice. We are happy to advise you on finding the perfect duvet for you, so that you can look forward to a good night's sleep.
Near Bath&In Living, you will find duvets with various fillings and unique features. Down duvets with different down percentages, but also other natural duvets or with different types of synthetic filling.
Synthetic materials
In our range, you will find two types of duvets made from synthetic materials: the Fibersoft and the Thermo. Both are available as single duvets (Solo) and 4-season duvet (DuoYou can wash both the Fibersoft and the Thermo duvet at a maximum of 60 degrees Celsius. This is a major advantage if you are looking for an anti-allergic duvet, as it helps combat dust mites. You will find the washing instructions on the duvet's label. Another advantage of a synthetic duvet is that it is more affordable than a down duvet.
The synthetic material of the Fibersoft The duvet consists of hollow polyester fibers. This is a lovely synthetic duvet that feels voluminous and is extra supple thanks to the satin ticking. The nice thing about this duvet is that it is "quiet," unlike the rustling sound that down filling can make.
It Thermo The duvet has a filling of siliconized microfiber and a ticking of 100% combed cotton. The microfiber material is climate- and moisture-regulating and approximates the feel of down.
Down duvet
If you prefer not to use synthetic material for your bed, a down duvet is a perfect option. Under a duvet of down feathers, you enjoy a comfortable night's sleep using only natural materials. A wool duvet is also natural and often slightly cheaper, but a down duvet lasts longer. Depending on usage, the quality of a down duvet only declines after 6 to 10 years.
A down duvet is nice and lightweight and drapes smoothly around the body. What a down duvet excels at is absorbing and wicking away moisture. This prevents clammy nights where you toss and turn restlessly in search of a cool spot. Such a duvet therefore truly contributes to an optimal night's sleep.
The Vandyck down feathers are made dust-free in an environmentally friendly way and undergo a hot air treatment of 120 degrees Celsius. Due to this treatment, in combination with a tightly woven ticking, the down duvets are allergy-friendly.
Quality, percentage and fill weight
The difference between down duvets lies in the down quality, the down percentage, and the fill weight. These three factors also determine the price category of a duvet. For example, there is a difference between duck and goose down. Goose down makes for a higher-quality, luxurious duvet because the down feathers are larger and fluffier. As a result, they have better fill power, retain heat longer, and are better at wicking away perspiration.
We have one duvet in our assortment with 100% goose down: Superior 100. All other duvets have a down percentage of 95%, 90%, or 65%, supplemented with feathers. Remarkably, the Superior 100 duvet has a much lighter fill weight than the other duvets with a high down percentage. This is because it does not contain normal feathers (which are heavier) and due to the superior quality of the down type: pure Bohemian goose down. The ticking of this duvet is also super light and wonderfully soft and supple. All in all, with this duvet, you feel like you are sleeping under a cloud and will never shiver again during cold nights.
When it comes to down, you don't just have to think of a wonderfully warm winter duvet, because it is much more than that! We even have a summer duvet with a down percentage of 95%. Delightful luxury yet nice and cool thanks to a lower fill weight. At Bath&At Living, every type of down duvet is available as a single duvet (Solo) and a 4-season duvet (Duo). The Excellent 95 In addition, there is an extra variant that falls between a summer duvet and the Solo duvet in terms of fill weight. Ideal for people who want the comfort of a down duvet but get too warm easily.
Type of duvet
In addition to the type of filling, consider in advance what type of duvet you want to purchase and what the right warmth rating is for you. Are you looking for a single duvet or a four-season duvet? You can choose a thick duvet, but how warm the duvet actually is depends on the type of material. Or would you prefer a nice, fresh duvet for the warm months instead of a winter duvet? We are happy to advise you on the different warmth ratings in our range of duvets, so that your new duvet perfectly matches your personal preferences.
4-season duvet
A 4-season duvet is a good all-rounder. In principle, every 4-season duvet consists of multiple duvets: a summer duvet and a warmer autumn section. You can easily combine these to create a wonderfully warm winter duvet. This way, you can create the right warmth rating for your duvet yourself. With the exception of the special summer duvets, every type of duvet in our collection has a 4-season variant.
Single duvet
Some people do not need a variable duvet, for example if the bedroom maintains a constant temperature all year round. In that case, one duvet is sufficient. Our range of duvets consists of six down duvets and four duvets with other fillings, each with unique properties. We have already mentioned two of these, the Thermo and the Fibersoft, under synthetic duvets. The other two are special summer duvets, which we will explain below.
Summer duvet
The Summer Ventilation It is made of 50% bamboo and 50% Tencel with a lightweight ticking of 100% combed cotton. Bamboo is naturally antibacterial and hypoallergenic. Like down, bamboo has excellent moisture regulation, but is considerably more affordable. However, it is a flatter fiber, making it less effective at thermal insulation. Ideal for a summer duvet, but you won't often see this filling material in a winter duvet.
The summer duvet Summer Silk This is a cotton duvet with a filling of 100% mulberry silk. This is the best and strongest type of silk available. It is, in fact, the strongest natural fiber in existence. Mulberry silk has anti-allergic properties, unlike wild silk. And it is good at regulating temperature; so it stays nice and cool for warm summer nights. This duvet can be washed in the washing machine on the wool cycle.
We have mentioned this type of duvet before, and it is perfect for the true down enthusiast: Summer 95. An airy duvet with 95% Eastern European white goose down and a ticking made of the finest cotton with an extra soft finish. Due to the light fill weight, this type of down duvet is very comfortable for the summer. The Summer 95 features many squares, ensuring the down feathers are optimally distributed.
Various sizes of duvets
The size of your duvet also contributes to a good night's sleep. When finding the right duvet, take the width of your mattress into account. If your duvet is approximately 60 centimeters wider than your mattress, you are on the right track. All duvets in our assortment come in three different widths with a standard length of 200 cm or an extra-long length of 220 cm. Several types are also available in an extra-wide size, suitable for a king-size bed.
Single duvets
A single bed is usually between 80 and 100 cm wide. For this, a single duvet with a width of 140 cm is ideal. The standard length of a single bed is 200 cm, which is also a nice length for your duvet. Or you can choose an extra-long duvet of 220 cm.
Double duvets
The middle size duvet in our range is 200x200 cm. This size is ideal for a small double or a double bed. The standard widths for this size are 120, 140, or 160 cm. This size duvet is not available with a length of 220 cm.
Double duvets
For large double duvets, look towards a lits jumeaux. Nice and wide duvets of 240 cm with a length of 200 cm or 220 cm. Choose these if your mattress has a width between 160 and 200 cm.
Extra wide twin beds
For an even larger bed or if you want to create extra overhang, you can opt for a king-size duvet. This is an extra-wide lits jumeaux duvet. It has a width of 260 cm and a length of 220 cm.
