We use towels every day, multiple times a day. We use towels to dry our bodies, we wrap ourselves in bath towels after a hot shower and we dry our hands on a guest towel.
When it comes time to buy new towels, you want to make sure you choose the best towels made from good quality textiles. After all, when you step out of a relaxing bath, you want your bath towel to be wonderfully soft and to be able to dry yourself off properly. But there are so many different types of towels, how do you choose the right ones that will also last a long time?
What should you pay attention to when choosing towels?
The best towels for you will depend partly on what you want to use them for. For example, you may have the best quality towels in the bathroom to dry yourself off with, but you may prefer to choose a different towel to take to the gym. For example, a slightly thinner towel that fits easily in your sports bag. You may take an extra large and quick-drying towel to the sauna to wrap yourself in, while that large size is somewhat inconvenient for home. So before you invest in new towels, consider what they should meet.
We already mentioned it before: the quality of the textile. This is an important part when choosing the best towels. When it comes to towels, 100% good quality cotton is the best choice. Cotton has a good absorbency. In general, cotton will be used in the making of towels, but it is not always 100% cotton. You will notice that you can dry yourself less well with towels that have a lower cotton percentage. That is why the quality of the textile is important.
Materials: What's the Difference?
While 100% cotton is a good place to start, there can still be a big difference between one type of cotton and another. For example, combed cotton is much softer than uncombed and will not pill; perfect for a soft towel. While cotton is naturally good at absorbing water, terry cotton is even better at this. Terry cloth is woven in such a way that small loops are created. The country where the cotton grows also affects the quality because the cotton fibers grow longer and stronger in an ideal climate.
Egyptian Cotton vs Regular Cotton
Egypt is an example of an ideal climate for growing cotton. The right weather conditions create longer fibers. These long fibers are woven together and create a stronger thread than regular cotton. It also feels wonderfully soft and is more durable than regular cotton. Due to the good quality of Egyptian cotton, you need fewer threads to make a soft towel. In both our Aquanova and Vandyck collections you will find towels from Egyptian cotton.
Heavy quality or nice and airy?
If you like luxury hotel quality towels, the weight is an important criterion for you. The weight says a lot about the quality of the towels and is expressed in grams/m². A heavy quality is created by woven cotton threads closer together and/or by making longer loops. Towels with a weight above 500 grams/m² have a fine hotel quality, such as the Vandyck Home towels. But for the best towels with the most luxurious quality, choose towels with a weight of 650 grams/m². The heaviest quality towels in our range are the Riva towels by Blomus. These towels weigh no less than 700 grams/m².
However, there are also situations in which you prefer to choose airy towels, such as the Dear towels from Blomus. Firstly because they are lighter, but also because you can fold them less thickly. Think for example of the gym or holiday. In your sports bag or suitcase you do not want one item to take up too much space and carrying extra weight is not desirable. Also in the sauna airy towels are often more pleasant, because they dry faster. For this it is Coco beach towel perfect.
Organic cotton
If you find it important that your towels are not only made of 100% cotton but also of organic cotton, then Blomus has the best towels for you. Namely the wonderfully full Riva towels. These organic towels have the "Global Organic Textile Standard" certificate. This GOTS label guarantees that the production of this bath textile has taken place in an environmentally friendly and socially responsible manner and it guarantees and meets established quality standards.
The best choice of towels in beautiful colours
High-quality, soft towels are nice, but you also want them to look nice. Especially in the bathroom, you can use towels from a decorative point of view. You start and end your day in the bathroom, so it is important that you feel comfortable here. The best towels are towels that also match you and your bathroom in terms of color.
Fortunately, quality and style go hand in hand with the towels from Bath&Living. In our collection you will find towels from various brands in many different colours and with a nice design here and there. You also have various choices in terms of sizes with all brands.
Vandyck towels
Vandyck is a progressive brand in the field of bed and bath fashion; so they are good with textiles. In our assortment you will find several bath textile series from Vandyck. As the Verona towels and the Home towels. Both are available in plain and striped versions, and in the Home series you will also find a mixed variant. Both series contain washcloths, guest towels, hand towels and bath towels with a weight of 550 grams/m². The Home towel is also available as an extra large bath towel of 90x180 cm. This is therefore also ideal for the pool or the beach. Speaking of which: we also have the Vandyck Riviera beach towels and the Coco hammam towels in our range.
Most colours can be found in the Vandyck Ranger series. Plain towels made of 100% American cotton (650 grams/m²), accompanied by the Vancouver towels with wide stripes and the Ontario towels with narrow stripes. With this you can make beautiful sets for your bathroom, tailored to your wishes and style. American cotton has a longer fiber, just like Egyptian cotton, and is therefore of extremely good quality.
Aquanova towels
What Aquanova does very well, is to make combining easy. Their wonderfully soft London towels come in many shades, which are also reflected in other bathroom products. Such as soap dishes and dispensers, toilet accessories, pedal bins and laundry baskets. The London bath textiles are made of 100% Egyptian cotton with a full hotel quality of 600 grams/m². Combine the luxury towels with bath towels, bath sheets, washcloths and guest towels. There are also bath mats found in the London series and therefore in exactly the same colours. The handy thing about this is that you can wash them at the same time as the towels. Are you looking for a different style bath mat to go with your new towels? Then we still have plenty other choices in our Aquanova collection.
Blomus towels
Both towel series from the brand Blomus we have already mentioned: the airy Caro towels and the Riva towels with full hotel quality. The striking thing about the Caro towels is that they are made of cotton with waffle pattern. These unique towels are light in quality (400 grams/m²) and therefore dry quickly. So also perfect as a guest towel in your toilet room.
The soft, organic Riva series includes, in addition to guest towels and regular towels, an extra large bath towel of 100x200 cm. This makes this bath towel very suitable as a sauna towel to wrap yourself in. The Riva and Caro towels are available in matching colours and can therefore also be beautifully combined with each other.
Maintain good quality towels with washing and drying
To maintain the soft quality of the textile for as long as possible, it is important to store towels on the right way to wash and dry. Because high-quality towels are super absorbent, they also absorb soap residue. Soap residue reduces the absorbency of a towel. To get this out as best as possible in the washing machine, we recommend washing the towels at a minimum of 40 degrees Celsius. Do this with only a small amount of detergent and no fabric softener; this can cause soap residue to stick to your towels. It is also less good for your washing machine.
Most towels in our range can also be washed at a high temperature - 60 degrees - and are suitable for the dryer. Although using the dryer may be less good for the environment, the dryer does make your textiles softer. If you let towels air dry, they dry less softly.
