We use towels every day, several times a day. We use towels To dry our bodies, we wrap ourselves in bath towels after a hot shower and dry our hands with a guest towel.
When it's time to buy new towels, you want to be sure you choose the best ones made of high-quality fabric. After all, when you step out of a relaxing bath, you want your bath towel to be wonderfully soft and dry yourself off properly. But with so many different types of towels, how do you choose the right ones that will also last?
What should you pay attention to when choosing towels?
The best towels for you depend partly on what you want to use them for. For example, you might have the best quality towels in the bathroom to dry yourself off with, but you might prefer a different towel to take to the gym. For example, a slightly thinner towel that easily fits in your gym bag. You might take an extra-large, quick-drying towel to the sauna to wrap yourself in, while a larger size might be a bit awkward at home. So, before investing in new towels, consider their requirements.

We've already mentioned this: the quality of the fabric. This is a key factor in choosing the best towels. When it comes to towels, good quality 100% cotton is the best choice. Cotton is highly absorbent. Generally, towels will be made with cotton, but it's not always 100% cotton. You'll find that towels with a lower cotton content won't dry you as well. Therefore, the quality of the fabric is important.
Materials: What's the Difference?
While 100% cotton is a good starting point, there can still be a significant difference between cotton types. Combed cotton, for example, is much softer than uncombed cotton and won't pill—perfect for a soft towel. While cotton is naturally good at absorbing water, terrycloth cotton is even better at this. Terrycloth is woven in such a way that small loops are created. The country where the cotton is grown also influences the quality, as the cotton fibers grow longer and stronger in an ideal climate.
Egyptian cotton vs. regular cotton
Egypt offers an ideal climate for growing cotton. The right weather conditions create longer fibers. These long fibers are woven together, creating a stronger thread than regular cotton. It also feels wonderfully soft and is more durable than regular cotton. Because of the high quality of Egyptian cotton, fewer threads are needed to make a soft towel. You'll find towels from this brand in both our Aquanova and Vandyck collections. Egyptian cotton.
Heavy quality or nice and airy?

If you appreciate luxurious hotel-quality towels, weight is an important factor. Weight is a key indicator of the quality of the towels and is expressed in grams/m². A heavier quality is created by weaving cotton threads closer together and/or by creating longer loops. Towels weighing over 500 grams/m² are considered fine hotel-quality, such as the Vandyck. Home towels. But for the best towels with the most luxurious quality, choose towels weighing 650 grams/m². The heaviest quality towels in our range are the Riva towels from Blomus. These towels weigh a whopping 700 grams/m².
However, there are also situations where you prefer airy towels, like the Caro towels from Blomus. Firstly, because they're lighter, but also because they fold up less bulky. Think of the gym or vacation, for example. You don't want a single item taking up too much space in your gym bag or suitcase, and lugging extra weight around isn't desirable. Airy towels are also often more comfortable in the sauna because they dry faster. The Coco beach towel is perfect for this.
Organic cotton
If you value not only 100% cotton but also organic cotton for your towels, Blomus has the perfect towels for you: the wonderfully full Riva towels. These organic towels have the "Global Organic Textile Standard" certification. This GOTS label guarantees that these bath linens are produced in an environmentally and socially responsible manner and that they meet established quality standards.

Maintain good quality towels with washing and drying
To maintain the soft quality of the textile for as long as possible, it's important to wash and dry towels correctly. Want to know how? Then check out our tips on how to wash and dry towelsBecause high-quality towels are super absorbent, they also absorb soap residue. Soap residue reduces a towel's absorbency. To remove it as effectively as possible in the washing machine, we recommend washing the towels at a minimum of 40 degrees Celsius. Use only a small amount of detergent and no fabric softener; this can actually cause soap residue to stick to your towels. It's also less good for your washing machine.
Most of the towels in our range can also be washed at a high temperature—60 degrees Celsius—and are suitable for tumble drying. While using the dryer may be less environmentally friendly, it does make your textiles softer. Air-drying towels will dry less softly.
