Wat is Egyptisch katoen?

Egyptian cotton is a type of cotton used for bedding and other products such as towels It's incredibly popular. It's no wonder it's so popular worldwide, as it's a particularly high-quality type of cotton. It has all the properties of regular cotton, and then some!

Properties of Egyptian cotton

All types of cotton are natural, skin-friendly, breathable, and moisture-regulating. Cotton products are also easy to wash, making them ideal for bedding and towels.

Egyptian cotton distinguishes itself from other types of cotton by its long fibers. This lengthens the threads, allowing for the finest yarns to be made from Egyptian cotton. Compared to a product made from another cotton variety with a similar thread count, an Egyptian cotton product can still be stronger and softer to the touch. In that respect, a high thread count means nothing; the quality of the thread is just as important. And that's precisely what sets Egyptian cotton apart!

How are the long fibers of Egyptian cotton created? Because the cotton plants grow in Egypt's Nile Delta, they enjoy perfect conditions. A unique combination of ideal climate and good soil. This allows the cotton fibers to elongate without losing their strength. A fiber of Egyptian-grown cotton is at least 30 mm long. Standard cotton has a fiber length of 22-27 mm or even shorter. This makes Egyptian cotton more luxurious and durable than other cottons.

Why is Egyptian cotton so popular?

Egyptian cotton is known as the finest cotton in the world. Its long fibers make fabrics stronger and softer, if not the softest of all cottons. Threads made from Egyptian cotton produce less lint and result in fabrics with more beautiful colors. Choosing Egyptian cotton bedding and bath linens means choosing the highest possible quality and a longer lifespan.

How do you recognize real Egyptian cotton?

Egyptian Cotton Trademark - Egyptisch katoen - www.bath-living.com

The term "Egyptian cotton" is sometimes incorrectly used for other types of cotton. American and Pima cotton, for example, also have long fibers, but they cannot be called Egyptian cotton. The name "Egyptian cotton" is protected by the Cotton Egypt Association. They perform DNA testing to validate that a product is truly made of Egyptian cotton, which can be identified by the trademark. Keep in mind that these DNA tests are not yet universally implemented.
