Tips voor het opmaken van je bed

Is making your bed a daily chore you dread? Or does it give you a sense of accomplishment? Starting your day by making your bed could just be the kickstart you need to tackle your to-do list for the rest of the day.

We're also fans of a beautifully made bed! However, we recommend airing your bedding for at least 20-60 minutes after a night's sleep before neatly closing and tucking it in. This allows your body heat to escape and any moisture to evaporate. This limits the proliferation of bacteria and dust mites, allowing you to sleep soundly the next night. So, take a shower, have breakfast, or walk the dog, and then return to your bedroom to make your bed; ready to welcome you back in the evening.

We're happy to offer practical tips to help you make your bed. Because a beautifully made bed contributes to a good night's sleep. But we're taking things a step further with inspiration for a truly beautiful bed. With the right bedding and stylish styling, you can create an atmosphere in your bedroom reminiscent of hotel luxury.

Choose the right bedding for your bed

Of course, you want a high-quality and stylish duvet cover for a beautifully made bed. But making your bed involves more than just that. First, it's important to know the exact size of your bed and mattress. This will help you determine the right dimensions for all your bedding. A perfectly fitting mattress protector, a snugly fitted sheet, and a comfortable, large-enough duvet with a well-fitting duvet cover.

The right dimensions are so important because you'll simply sleep less comfortably if your bedding doesn't fit properly. Consider a fitted sheet that doesn't fit snugly around the mattress. A fitted sheet that's too small will easily come loose, and a fitted sheet that's too large will cause you to lie on folds or a bunch of fabric. When choosing your fitted sheet and mattress protector, consider not only the length and width, but also the maximum corner height. It's also important that the duvet is properly fitted in the duvet cover, so that the warmth from your blankets is evenly distributed. We're happy to help you with your question. What size duvet cover do I need?"

The basics of making the bed

When everything fits perfectly and is perfectly, not only will you sleep much more comfortably, but it will also enhance the look of your bed and, consequently, your bedroom. The way you make the bed also affects this; a messy bed is less attractive than a neat one. That's why we're happy to give you some practical tips on how best to make it.

  1. Start with a mattress protector or another mattress protector. This protects your mattress from dust and excess moisture and slows down wear and tear. Bath covers&All living mattresses have a handy elastic band all the way around, and the corners are clearly visible. Make sure these fit snugly around the corners of your mattress or topper, and pull the fabric firmly around the mattress topper on all sides.
  2. Do the same with your fitted sheet. If you've chosen the correct size, the sheet will lie straight, and the base of your bed should now be completely smooth.
  3. Continue with the pillows. Turn your pillowcases inside out and put your arms through the opening. Place your hands from the inside in the two corners furthest from the opening and grasp the corners of your pillow with them. Fold the pillowcase over the pillow, continuing to hold the corners of both the case and the pillowcase, and shake the pillow until the cover is mostly wrapped around it.Now release the corners and pull the pillowcase all the way into place from the other two corners.
  4. You can also apply the above technique to your duvet cover to ensure it fits neatly into all corners. But we'll also show you a second technique:
Lay the duvet cover flat on your bed, inside out. Place it on top of your duvet, ensuring the corners and edges are neatly aligned. Gather the duvet and duvet cover together and begin rolling them up from the headboard. When you reach the footboard, fold the opening of the duvet cover over both sides of the roll and begin rolling the duvet back up. The duvet cover is now securely wrapped around the duvet. If necessary, grab the duvet cover and duvet by the corners and shake it out to ensure everything is neatly tucked in.
  5. All duvet covers in our collection are 220 cm long, plus a generous tuck-in flap. This provides ample room for folding the duvet cover neatly over the foot of the bed and tucking it in.

How can you make your bed beautifully?

With the steps above, your bed is perfectly made for a good night's sleep. But the real styling is just beginning! Since your bed is a generous piece of furniture in your bedroom, it largely determines the room's appearance. By simply changing your bedding and making your bed beautifully, you can create a completely different style in your bedroom. We're happy to help you make your bed beautifully.

Of course, a duvet cover with a stylish print or beautiful design goes a long way. But you can make your bed even more stylish and give it a luxurious hotel-like feel by adding layers. Think of a bedspread, throw, or extra pillows. These can be extra pillows measuring 60x70 cm or decorative cushions measuring 40x55 cm.

For example, you can place a bedspread at the foot of the bed, drape it over a corner of the bed, or spread it out completely. In this way, a bedspread not only provides decoration but also extra warmth.

Different textures

One thing you can do with a bedspread or throw is add extra textures. This creates a rich contrast with your duvet cover, creating a luxurious hotel feel. In the photo below on the right, you can beautifully see the effect of various textures together. The throw at the bottom of the photo is the Vandyck. Home 81 and gives a soft and woolly look, very suitable for creating a warm atmosphere in the autumn. The beige Pure 64 The Vandyck bedspread features decorative stitching that beautifully dresses your bed and looks stylish in your bedroom in any season.

Then you also have, for example, the Pure 68 series made of pre-washed, garment dyed cotton with a natural wrinkle or, for example, the Home Pique A waffle-textured series with a wide range of colors. Each Vandyck bedspread or throw comes with matching 40x55 cm pillowcases for decorative cushions, and some series also include 60x70 cm.

The effect of color

Not only texture, but also color significantly influences the styling of your bed and bedroom. As you can see in the three photos below, you can tailor the look of your bed to your personal preferences, depending on the combinations you make. The duvet cover in the photo is quite dark but does feature a colorful floral print. So you can choose to go for only dark accessories to accentuate the wintery feel, or you can brighten things up with bright pops of color, echoed in the floral print.

In this case, a dark gray duvet cover has been chosen as the upper layer, as well as a rust orange decorative pillow. This beautifully complements the orange tones in the flowers. You could even accentuate the bright, light blue in the print with a bedspread, fitted sheet, or decorative pillows to create an even fresher look.

This principle doesn't just apply to dark and vibrant colors. It also applies to soft shades, as you can see below. You can give this duvet cover with twigs and pink flowers a very girly and romantic look by accentuating the pink tones. Details like ruffles on the decorative pillows and smooth fabrics add a touch of elegance.

At every duvet cover Our collection features matching items. Think fitted sheets in perfectly matching colors and a variety of bedspreads, throws, and pillowcases. So the thinking and searching has already been done for you. All you have to do is choose your favorites!

Natural materials

Another major contribution to the look and feel of your bed and bedroom is the choice of materials. We're big proponents of natural materials like cotton, linen, and wool. They not only enhance the look of your bed but also increase your sleeping comfort. Read all about the best materials for your duvet cover here..

Changing bed and washing linens

Part of making your bed beautifully is changing it. Nothing looks as inviting and neat as fresh sheets and a clean bed. We recommend changing and washing your bedding once a week. If you sleep naked and/or sweat a lot, you might need to do it more often. Or perhaps you prefer to change your pillowcases more often because you lie face down on them.

To maintain the soft quality of your bedding, we recommend carefully reading and following the washing instructions on your items. These indicate the maximum temperature at which your duvet covers and sheets can be washed. Follow these instructions to ensure everything is thoroughly cleaned without unnecessary wear. It's best to wash your duvet cover inside out.

In some cases, you can also wash your duvet. Check the label carefully to see if your duvet is machine washable. This is generally not the case with down duvets, but there are plenty of wonderful duvets that are machine washable. If you keep up with changing your sheets and duvet cover, you'll only need to wash your duvet very occasionally.
