It's been a while since we wrote an article about the effect of a bath mat in your bathroomA bath mat adds body and ambiance, improves acoustics, and makes you less likely to slip on a wet floor.
At Bath&Living you will find bath mats Available in all sorts of different materials, styles, colors, and sizes. But how do you find the perfect bath mat for you? Our stylists can certainly help. But with this article, we hope to help you get started on finding the perfect bath mat for you.
Which material bath mat do you choose?
In terms of materials, you have a number of choices in the Bath&Living range. For example, there are bath mats made of synthetic materials such as polyester or acrylic, bath mats made of 100% cotton or a blend of cotton and synthetic material.

Cotton bath mat
The advantage of cotton It's a natural material, has excellent moisture absorption, and dries quickly. This is convenient if you use your bath mat to step onto after getting wet from the shower or bath. Keep in mind, however, that not all cotton is the same. Our range ranges from the thin Ranger hotel mat (only 750 grams/m²) to the high-pile Alma bath mat (2800 grams/m²). While cotton has excellent moisture-absorbing properties, wet feet will have a greater impact on the look of a thick, high-pile bath mat than on a thin, low-pile one.
Synthetic bath mats
Another material that dries quite quickly is acrylicThe "old-fashioned" bath mat that lasted for years was also made of acrylic. This is because acrylic is durable and colorfast, making it an ideal material for a bath mat. An acrylic bath mat has a slightly woolly look. We stock acrylic bath mats from both Vandyck and Aquanova.
Other synthetic materials used to make bath mats include polyamide, polyester, and micropolyester. These are all high-pile, decorative bath mats, each with its own unique look. The advantage of polyester is its extra soft feel, which is wonderful under your bare feet.

Mixed cotton bath mat
There are also several bath mats made of cotton blended with polyester, for example. These are all stylish yet practical bath mats, and you have a wide range of colors to choose from. Use the filter options in our webshop to find a bath mat in your desired material.
Which style of bath mat suits you?
The style of your bath mat can make a big difference in your bathroom's interior. For example, a thin, flat mat like the London bath mat from Aquanova or the Houston bath mat from Vandyck has a completely different look than the fluffy, high-pile Mauro bath mat.
It's not just low or high pile that makes a difference. The way the mat is woven, tufted, or bonded also makes a difference. The aforementioned Mauro is made of micropolyester fibers that are tightly packed. This gives it a fuller look than, for example, the Musa bath mat, where the threads are more distinct. Even airy threads don't always look the same. While the Musa bath mat has a matte finish, the Kemen bath mat has a luxurious sheen. This creates a completely different look with a unique color and shadow effect. Especially if your bathroom is otherwise relatively simple, the Kemen bath mat can be a real eye-catcher in your interior.

Then there are various bath mats made with loops. The mini loops on the Blomus Kaavu or Aquanova Yuna bath mats are quite subtle. In contrast, the large loops of the Maks or Axel bath mats are much more prominent in the room. However, these also differ in that the Maks bath mat has relatively flat, matte loops, while the loops on the Axel bath mat are softer and fuller.
It's up to you to decide to what extent you want to use your new bath mat as a styling tool. Do you want a purely practical shower mat? without frills Or could your bath mat use some attention in your bathroom? The higher the pile and the more shine the bath mat has, the better. more striking this will be.
Which color bath mat suits your bathroom?

The color of the bath mat naturally also contributes to its striking effect. Will you choose a color that blends beautifully with the hues of your floor tiles? Or will you make a statement with a stylish accent color? And would you like to coordinate the colors of your towels and bath sheets with the color of your bath mat to create an even more cohesive look? This is possible with all the bath mats in our range, as we also have matching towels from every brand. With our Aquanova range, you can even extend the colors to your bathroom accessories, such as the soap dispenser, toilet brush, and laundry basket.
Which bath mat is practical?
Besides the look and feel of your bath mat, there are a few other important factors to consider when buying a new one. How important is anti-slip to you? Can you put the bath mat in the washing machine and dryer? And what size is ideal for your bathroom?

Bath mat size
The size of your bath mat is definitely important. A bath mat that's too small or too large can look awkward in the room. But the right size doesn't just depend on the size of your bathroom. It's best if the size of your bath mat is in balance with the dimensions of your vanity and/or sink.
These days, many bathrooms are equipped with a beautiful double sink and therefore a fairly wide vanity. In that case, we also recommend a fairly large bath mat. Fortunately, we have plenty of them in our selection. We even have extra large bath mats of 70x120 cm or 80x160 cm.
Of course, we also have smaller sizes of bath mats. If you're just looking for a toilet mat, you can also find it here. We have small square bath mats that are perfect for the toilet area, or even toilet mats with a special design. toilet cutout.

Anti-slip or not?
Bath mats come in premium, medium, light, and non-slip versions. Premium anti-slip is the most common in our range. The anti-slip properties are often created by a latex backing, but natural rubber, thermoplastic rubber (TPR), or silicone nubs are also available. The higher the anti-slip properties, the better the bath mat stays in place and the less chance of slipping.
However, some people might consciously choose a bath mat without anti-slip. The advantage is that the fabric is more flexible and dries faster. We don't necessarily recommend a bath mat without anti-slip for small children. However, if only adults live in your home, it's a great option.

Can you wash the bath mat?
While a bath mat is the perfect styling tool for your bathroom, it's also simply a utility item. You probably stand on your bath mat several times a day. And the more people live in your home, the more feet touch the bath mat, and the greater the chance of residue from body creams and hairspray. That's why it's good to be able to wash your bath mat properly. All bath mats in our range are machine washable at a minimum of 30 degrees Celsius. Some can also be washed at 40 or even 60 degrees. For most, we recommend placing the bath mat in a laundry bag to minimize wear and tear on the fibers. Most bath mats are also tumble dried, but only at a low temperature.
